Till\n\n Leader: Tina Bowles\n\n Soloist: Matthew Wilsher (Clarinet)\n
 \n Programme:\n\n \n Dominic McGonigal Cathedral Symphony (world p
 remiere)\n Gipps Clarinet Concerto (Matthew Wilsher\, clarinet)\n S
 aint-Saëns Symphony No. 3 ‘Organ’ (Paul Roberts\, organ)\n \n Lo
ndon Medical Orchestra’s summer concert features the recently-restored W
WI memorial organ of St Mellitus Church in Camille Saint-Saëns’ famous
Symphony No. 3 ‘Organ’.\n \n We start the evening with the premie
re of Dominic McGonigal’s Cathedral Symphony\, written for LMO. Its fou
r movements are inspired by astonishing architectural features of Lincoln\
, Bayeux\, Beauvais and Mechelen Cathedrals\; Gothic\, Norman and Romanesq
ue details are depicted by both full orchestral grandeur and quieter\, mys
terious harmonies.\n \n Ruth Gipps’s Clarinet Concerto was written i
n 1940 for her fiancé\, yet extraordinarily was only first performed 20 y
ears after her death by the London Repertoire Orchestra in 2019\, an ensem
ble she founded in 1955. Written when Gipps was only 19\, the Clarinet Con
certo demonstrates a lyrical and gratifying compositional voice\, and prom
inently features the oboe (her own orchestral instrument) as duet partner
with the solo clarinet.\n \n Funds are being raised for Brains Trust\
, who support people living with brain tumours.  https://brainstrust.org
